Stone Fox

Review by Tyler
Last week, I read a book about the Iditarod in Alaska. I really liked it a lot and this book was suggested to me. I am sure glad that I read it. I liked it so much that I sat down and read the whole thing yesterday. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I learned that it is important that you try your best, whether you win or lose. My favorite part about the book was when the dogs put the boy into first place when they started out running. I don't want to completely give away the story, but there were some really sad parts too. If I were going to enter the Iditarod, I would use my two dogs, Ariel and Spanky, for the racing. I'd also make myself skinny and light so they could run faster. I think it would be fun to enter the Iditarod, but it would also be very hard. I'd give some of my winning money to my family and then I'd give some to the hospital to help out sick people. I think lots of people would like this book, especially people who live in Alaska, Antarctica, or Canada and people who love dogs.

In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson
In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson
By Bette Bao Lord
Review by David
When my mom told me that she wanted me to read this book, I complained. I thought the chapters looked long, and it didn't look interesting. When I started reading, I did not like the book. But, after a few chapters, I started to get into it because it told me interesting facts, talked about baseball history (like how Jackie Robinson became MVP), and the kids in the book were a lot like me. My favorite part of the book was when Jackie Robinson came to the school. If I got to meet a famous baseball player, it would be the second best thing in the whole entire world (the first would be meeting Tiger Woods). My mom's favorite part is when Shirley Temple Wong says the Pledge of Allegiance. It makes us both laugh every time. I won't tell you the whole thing, but it starts out with "I pledge a lesson to the frog..." You'll have to read it yourself to find out the rest! I would recommend this book to other kids because it's a really good book since it teaches you interesting facts within the story. You'll like Shirley because she's brave. She started at a new school in the book, just like I am going to this fall!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I gave it this review because there are 3 mystery stories about gold, missing dogs and dogs being poisoned. My favorite part was when 4 kids named Christina, Grant, Raven and Hunter got to ride a dog sled by themselves. You would be surprised to know that the winner gets six nuggets of gold that equal more than 50,000 dollars. This book makes me want to learn more about the Iditarod trail. I think you would like this book because the mysteries are fun and exciting.

Magic Tree House Research Guide : Rain Forests
Magic Tree House Research Guide: Rain Forests
by Will Osborne and Mary Pope Osborne
Review by David
This book is full of facts about the rain forest. Here are some things that I learned...
1. There used to be thousands of woolly spider monkeys, and now there are only 700.
2. Most of our natural resources come from the rain forest.
3. The Amazon Rain Forest gets about 18 feet of rain each year. We only get about 3 feet of rain.
4.The biggest tropical rain forest in the world is the Amazon, in South America.
I think other boys and girls would like this book because it teaches you lessons about the rain forest. There are not a lot of resources and animals left in the rain forest. It is important for us to know about the rain forest because we need to know how to take care of it so that we will be able to have this resource to live!
