The 39 Clues Series

Titles: The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones, One False Note, The Sword Theif, Beyond the Grave, The Black Cirle, In Too Deep, The Viper's Nest, The Emporer's Code, Storm Warning, Into the Gauntlet, Vespers Rising

Authors: Rick Riordin, Gordan Korman, Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson, Patrick Carman, Linda Sue Park, Margaret Peterson Haddix

Quick Summary of the Series:
To start the series, Dan and Amy Cahill were at the funeral for their grandmother, Grace Cahill. Soon they learned that they were given the choice between $1 million dollars each or to go on a clue hunt, with the chance to find the 39 clues and to be the most powerful kids in the world. They picked to search for the 39 clues. Dan and Amy Cahill had to travel around the world with Nellie, their Au Pair, and their grandmother's cat, Saladin. They had to steal a lot of  ingredients that would make a master serum to make the kids the most powerful in the world. There were 5 branches of the Cahill family. The 5 branches of the family are Lucian, Thomas, Ekaterina, Janus, and Madrigal. At first, Dan and Amy thought the Madrigals were bad people who killed their parents. Later, they learned this wasn't true, along with a secret that surprised them. Sometimes they worked with people from different branches, and other times they worked alone. They always had to be careful and suspicious.

Why I loved the books:
I loved the books because of the mysteries, the clues and the different branches. I also liked this series because at the end, the branches worked together. I won't tell you too much about the end though. I don't want to give it all away. I thought Dan and Amy were pretty cool kids because Dan liked tombstone rubbings and Amy was very smart. I would like to be like Dan because I'd have a very good memory of everything I've ever seen. I liked learning about different places around the world and history. I can't wait to see the movie, which is supposed to come out in 2014. I wonder if it is better than the books I have read. We'll see!

  2. Thank you so much for your very thorough review of this series. I teach 3rd graders and I am always looking for new books to share with my students. My favorite genre is mysteries (I even have a cat named Mystery). Which book is your favorite? Which book would you recommend I read first?

P.S. When they make a movie of a book, I usually enjoy the movie, but I always like the book better. :)

  3. My favorite book was Into the Gauntlet because all 5 branches of the Cahills finally worked together.
I would start by reading Maze of Bones, the first book. With this series, it is best to read them in order so you can understand all of the characters and their journey.

  4. Thank you so much for your recommendation. I think we will start reading Maze of Bones next. Right now we are finishing up a historical fiction book: Little House on the Prairie. Have you ever read any of the Hank Zipzer books? My 3rd graders love them. They are so funny!

  6. I visited a class the other day where the teacher had read part of one of these books aloud to her class. When the students went to the library, over half of them checked out a book in this series. Then I saw your recommendation, so I think this might be something I need to expore! Thanks!
